The Ultimate K-Pop Lyrics Guide for iPhone
Everything K-pop fans need to know about getting the best lyrics experience on iPhone — from romanized Hangul to word-level sync to CarPlay.
K-pop and the lyrics problem
K-pop is one of the biggest music genres in the world. But for fans who don't read Korean, following along to a song's lyrics has always been harder than it should be.
The default Apple Music experience shows the original Hangul. That's great if you read Korean. But for millions of fans who are still learning — or who just want to sing along phonetically — you need romanization.
Lyrical solves this.
What romanization gives you
Romanization converts Hangul characters into their Latin alphabet equivalents based on pronunciation. So "내 장점이 뭔지 알아?" becomes "Nae jangjeomi mweonji ara?"
This is the standard way Korean is taught to non-native learners, and it's how the vast majority of K-pop fans learn to sing along to songs they love before they can read Hangul fluently.
Lyrical shows both: the original Hangul on the primary line, and the romanized reading on a secondary line directly beneath it. Both update in sync with the music.
Word-level sync for K-pop
Many popular K-pop tracks on Apple Music include word-level timing metadata. This means Lyrical knows exactly which syllable is being sung at any moment — not just which line.
With word-level sync enabled, you see each Hangul syllable highlight as it's sung, with the corresponding romanized syllable highlighting at the same time. It's the most precise karaoke experience available on iPhone for K-pop.
The artists this works for
Lyrical works with any K-pop track that has lyrics in Apple Music. This includes virtually all major releases from: BTS, BLACKPINK, IVE, aespa, NewJeans, SEVENTEEN, Stray Kids, TWICE, Red Velvet, EXO, NCT, and hundreds of others.
If Apple Music has synced lyrics for a track, Lyrical brings them to life in a premium visual experience.
Tips for the best experience
Use a quiet space or headphones for the best word-level sync experience. The sync is precise, but background noise can make it harder to follow along and confirm timing. Hold your phone near the audio source if using Shazam Mode to identify songs. Use CarPlay for car sing-alongs — Lyrical's CarPlay interface shows the current lyric line large and clear on your vehicle's display.
Learning Korean with Lyrical
Several Lyrical users have told us they use the app as a Korean study tool. Seeing Hangul and romanization side-by-side, synchronized with audio, is a surprisingly effective way to train your reading speed and ear for Korean pronunciation.
We didn't build Lyrical as a language learning app — but we love that it works that way for some users.
